Harriet Feldman

Lone Woman - Location: New York City
I met Harriet Feldman while volunteering at The Rubin Museum of Art’s education department in 2018. Right away, I fell in love with her charisma, energy, humor, and fashion sense. Over the course of four years of friendship, I have documented our time together, taken portraits of her, and seen how the biggest love of your life can be a friendship. She loves New York more than anyone in the world, and her home is like stepping into a time capsule. Each color on the wall reflects her personality, and each artwork was collected from another part of the world that she has been to. She has trusted me and given me the ability to continuously document her and her life. Harriet constantly reveals to me that she is lonely. Even before the pandemic hit, she felt alone. It is so difficult to see that someone you care for so deeply feels so isolated due to the pandemic. Her husband died when she was very young, and she does not have any children or family alive today. She has become my muse and my inspiration for how to live a happy life even when nothing turns out the way you planned it to. She is the strongest woman I have ever met, and I plan to document her life until I can’t anymore.
